...Full rb4life coverage

Kicking off his return to competitive racquetball following heart surgery,
Lehman managed wins in 2 divisions at the Washington Racquetball Association State Doubles tourney the weekend of  October 20-22, 2006.

Partnering with Seattle native, Richelle Kulju, the duo won  in round robin action, winning all games in to win in straight sets. In mens B division, playing with Rajiv Varadarajan, the pair also won in straight sets in single elimination play.

The tourney featured several hundred players played at the opulent downtown Seattle WAC....for compete results go here.

It all began with a slight pain in my chest...

It all began with a slight pain in my chest (which I ignored) but when I went to take that shot off the back wall, playing in a tie breaker match at the 2006 State Doubles; there was no ignoring the light-headedness I felt starting my set-up. I know now that I took the shot, just don’t remember doing it or much of anything else until I woke up on the emergency room table at St. Francis Hospital . The doctor, who leaned over me, told me in a quiet voice, “Mr. Lehman, you’ve had a heart attack, your heart stopped beating for a few minutes, so we’re going to do a procedure call a stent that will let us know what’s going on with your heart.” I learned later that my heart attack (myocardial infarction) was caused by a blood clot in one of my blocked arteries.

The next thing I know, I’m waking up in ICU, a little dazed and confused but feeling alright. The good news, I survived the attack!...the bad news, all arteries to my heart have blockages and that bypass surgery call CABG must be scheduled immediately. As it turned out, It was necessary to bypass the obstructed arteries with 5 graphs to circumvent the blockages.

Scheduled for Tuesday, my heart surgeon,
Dr. Paul K. Davis, assured me that I was going to be just fine with a 100 percent recovery to be expected in a couple of months. The Cardiologist, Dr. Mark Zolnick, also confirmed the diagnosis, indicating that the stent placed in my artery was just a temporary measure to keep me alive!

In hindsight, I just want to thank everyone who helped me dodge a major bullet in my life. I am lucky to be alive or so my doctors tell me. If I had passed out at just about any other place, I probably wouldn't have survived. There were so many who helped out on the court and who have sent along there much appreciated best wished that I hesitate to name names for fear of leaving someone out. So at this time, I’m hoping a rebuilt “heartfelt” big THANK YOU will do!

By the way, I’m changing my mantra from “Darth Vader” to the “Cardiac Kid!” Since I’m transitioning over from the dark side, I’ll need to start taking the advice of my friends and family, to slow down a bit, and begin to smell the roses, before leaving this world for good!

Hope to see you on the courts soon!
